Installation and Assembly

Q: I want to install my sauna outside. What precautions should I take?

A: The sauna is designed and recommended for indoor use, but it can be used outside if the following guidelines are observed. We recommend locating the sauna on a deck to protect it from moisture/water on the ground. The sauna must have a fitted sauna cover properly installed, and the entrance must be zipped completely closed when not in use. Before installing the cover, we recommend applying a coat of heavy furniture polish to the outside wood. The sauna must be located under an awning or overhang to prevent rain falling directly onto the roof, and must not be placed in a location where standing water can collect. Remember that the outside temperature will influence how long it takes the sauna to heat to a given temperature. Never use the sauna during rain or electrical storms.

Q: Is it safe to install my sauna on a carpeted floor?

A: Yes. There is no significant heat transferred to the outside of the sauna.

Q: My new NSE-3 sauna came with a special wall receptacle to plug it into. Is there anything else I need to do besides replace one of my wall outlets with this receptacle?

A: Yes. The NSE-3 and CSE-2 require a 20-amp line. Besides using the 20-amp receptacle provided, you must make sure that the circuit breaker for this line is rated at least 20-amps, and that the wiring from the breaker box to this outlet is rated for 20-amps (12-guage or heavier).

Q: I'm putting my new sauna together, and the female end of the A.C. power cord does not fit into the cord in the floor of the sauna. Did I get the wrong power cord?

A: No. These two cords do not connect to each other. They both plug into the sauna power supply on the front panel.

Q: One of the items in the accessory box that came with my sauna is a small plastic bag with two flat metal parts in it. What are these for?

A: These are the release “keys” for removing the radio/CD-player, in the unlikely event the player's fuse needs to be replaced.

Operation

Q: The display says ‘LO' when I turn my sauna on. Does this indicate a problem?

A: No. It is normal for the display to read ‘LO' until the sauna reaches 90 degrees.

Q: The heater under the bench is not nearly as hot as the other heaters in the sauna. Is this normal?

A: Yes. In most saunas the bench heater is a lower-power heater than the other heaters

Q: Do I need to let the sauna warm up before I get in?

A: That is a matter personal preference. Many people enjoy feeling the increasing warmth as the sauna heats, while others prefer the sauna to already be hot inside when they step into it.

Q: My sauna is in an enclosed but unheated patio. It seems to take a lot longer to heat up when the weather is cold. Is this normal?

A: Yes. The ambient temperature has a direct effect on how long the sauna takes to reach a given temperature.

Q: I unplugged my sauna, and when I plugged it back in my radio display says ‘MW' instead of ‘AM' and I can't tune most of the AM stations I could before. What happened?

A: Unplugging the sauna may have reset the radio to European tuning. Turn the radio on, then hold down the ‘BAND' button. Release the button when you hear a beep and the display says ‘ EUROPE '. Press the button one time so the display reads ‘USA1', then let the button go. Then press and hold down the button until it beeps again. Tuning for the standard AM broadcast band is now restored.

Maintenance

Q: What should I do to keep my sauna clean inside?

A: Place towels on the bench and on the floor under the feet to prevent perspiration from staining the raw wood inside the sauna. Periodically wipe down the inside with a warm, damp (not wet) soft cloth, using only warm water. We do not recommend the use of any cleaning agents, as the wood inside can easily absorb stains and odors from these cleaners.

Q: How can I remove perspiration stains from the sauna bench?

A: If, after a period of time, there is some staining on the bench or other wood inside the sauna, it can be easily removed by carefully sanding the affected area with a few strokes of fine-grit sandpaper.

Q: Is there any maintenance I should do on the sauna cover?

A: Yes. Periodically remove the cover during good weather to let it air out completely. Prolonged sauna use with the cover in place can cause moisture to condense on the inside of the cover. Airing out the cover will help prevent mold and will keep excessive moisture from damaging the sauna.

Q: I am going on a long vacation, and will not be using my sauna for several months. Is there anything special I should do?

A: Unplug the sauna whenever it is not going to be used for an extended period of time. When you return, burn off any dust that has accumulated on the heaters by setting the time and temperature to their maximum settings and running the sauna for an hour before using it.

Q: The reading light burned out in my sauna. What type of bulb should I replace it with?

A: 120-volt saunas can use a standard 120-volt light bulb, rated at 60 watts maximum. 230-volt units require a 230-volt 60-watt bulb. Any bulb with a voltage rating from 210 to 250 volts will work, as long as it is rated at 60-watts or less. Do not attempt to replace a 230-volt bulb with a standard 120-volt light bulb. It will burn the bulb out immediately and possibly damage the sauna power supply.

Troubleshooting

Q: I just put my brand new sauna together, but it is completely dead. What could be wrong?

A: The main power cord from the wall outlet is probably not inserted all the way into the sauna power supply. Reach up under the floor of the sauna and pull on the cord as you push the plug in to keep the cord from catching against the side wall.

Q: The heater under the bench is not putting out any heat. When I assembled the unit I made sure the plug was pushed all the way in. What could the problem be?

A: The round blue connector for the bench heater has to be inserted in the blue socket all the way, then twisted clockwise until it locks into place, in order for the connection to be made

Q: The radio won't tune any stations on either AM or FM band. I plugged in the speakers and the antenna. What should I check?

A: The antenna plug is probably not plugged all the way into the extension cable in the sauna. It may appear to be connected, but the plug may not be pushed in as far as it will go.

Q: We had a recent power outage, and after the power came back on my sauna isn't working right. What should I do?

A: Unplug the sauna for at least 30 minutes, then plug it back in. Wait one minute before operating the sauna or the radio/CD-player.

Q: After my friends used my sauna, it seems to take a lot longer to heat up than it did before. What could have happened?

A: Someone may have pushed on the temperature sensor and moved it. The sensor is a shiny metal cylinder about the diameter of a pencil, mounted in the bottom of the wooden box on the inside of the front panel of the sauna, above the inside keypad. For proper operation it should protrude from the bottom of the box about ½-inch.

Miscellaneous

Q: I want to register my new sauna. Where do I find the serial number?

A: Look on the wooden power supply cover on the inside of the sauna. It is directly below the inside keypad, just above the floor. Do not open the cover to look for the serial number. The serial number label is on the outside of the wood cover, not on the inside. The serial number is a 6-digit number that begins with a ‘1'.
